The Village of Sebewaing sits on the Saginaw Bay of Lake Huron and is bisected by the Sebewaing River. The quaint downtown offers fiber internet access and plenty of affordable real estate ready for your projects!


Population Data


As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 1,759 people, 802 households, and 491 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,113.3 inhabitants per square mile (429.8/km2). There were 917 housing units at an average density of 580.4 per square mile (224.1/km2). 

There were 802 households of which 26.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.8% were married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 38.8% were non-families. 33.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.79.

Beyond the population

Sebewaing is home to a good number of large employers. Even if the employees don't live in the village, they are here nearly every day. In the fall, there is further population expansion as Michigan Sugar brings in a massive amount of seasonal workers for the sugar beet season.

Sebewaing is in the middle of redevelopment boom. A 6.5 acre old industrial site in the downtown is being cleared for redevelopment which will start in 2019 with the construction of a $2.5 million assisted living facility. In addition, work has started on several retail/commercial renovations in the downtown area.

  • Culture: River Fire takes off in the fall with cauldrons of fire set in the Sebewaing River in the downtown area, with beer as part of the deal.

  • Sebewaing is working on building a biking/walking trail in the core downtown area.
